Mobile Guardian school administrators can bulk manage their Safe Content web categories and URL’s for both the allowed and blocked lists. 

Mobile Guardian school administrators can efficiently manage their Safe Content web categories and individual URLs in bulk. This feature allows for streamlined updates to both the allowed and blocked lists, saving time and ensuring consistent content filtering across the school's managed devices.

Prerequisites:

  • Administrator access to the Mobile Guardian dashboard.
  • Familiarity with Mobile Guardian's Safe Content settings and the concepts of allowed and blocked lists.
  • A prepared CSV (Comma Separated Values) file containing the web URLs to be managed.

Supported Actions:

Through bulk management, administrators can perform the following actions for both the Allowed and Blocked lists:

  • Import: Import multiple web URLs to the respective list.
  • Remove: Clear multiple web categories and URLs from the respective list.
  • Limit: The CSV has an upload limit of 200 entries. Please do not add more than 200 entries as the CSV will not load.

Preparing Your CSV File:

  • Creating list: Create an Excel sheet/Google sheets. The sheet should contain 2 columns “uri” and “configuration” each URL in a row in the “uri” column and allowlist or blocklis in the “configuration” column. 

 

 

  • File Encoding: Ensure the file is saved with UTF-8 encoding to avoid issues with special characters.
  • Saving: Download/Save the file as a CSV. 

 

 

  • Downloaded: Once downloaded, the CSV would be as seen below,

Steps for Bulk URL Management in Safe Content:

  1. Log in to your Mobile Guardian dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Profiles, select the Profile, What Tab and select Safe Content. 
  3. Navigate to the "Allowed List & Blocked List" tab.
  4. Under the URL’s heading, locate the "Actions" drop-down.
  5. Choose the desired action:
    • "Import from CSV": To add the URLs from your CSV file to the existing list.
  6. Select your prepared CSV file.
  7. The system will process the file and display the added URLs below the corresponding heading. 
  8. Review the updated list to ensure the changes have been applied correctly.

Important Considerations and Best Practices:

  • Accuracy: Double-check the contents of your CSV file before uploading to avoid unintended changes.
  • Error Handling: If the system identifies errors during the upload, it will indicate the error with the URL . Review your CSV file for formatting errors or invalid entries.
  • Testing: After performing bulk updates, it is advisable to test the content filtering on a few managed devices to ensure the Allowed and Blocked lists are functioning as expected.
  • Large Lists: For very large lists, the upload process might take a few moments. Please be patient and do not interrupt the process.
  • CSV Limit: Ensure the CSV file does not have more than 200 URL entries. If there are more than 200 entries, the CSV will not upload. 

Troubleshooting:

  • File Format Errors: Ensure your file is saved as a .csv file and adheres to the specified column structure and encoding.
  • Invalid URL: Double-check the spelling and format of the web categories and URLs in your CSV file.
  • Upload Failure: If the upload fails repeatedly, try breaking down your CSV file into smaller batches and uploading them separately. Contact Mobile Guardian support if the issue persists.
