Users can be forced to set a passcode to secure their Android or iOS devices. This feature is particularly useful when students are using devices outside of school, such as on field trips. If students are using a device only for a day, you can set a passcode that is valid for only one day. Follow the step-by-step guide below to enforce passcode policies.
Enforcing Passcode Policies on Android and iOS Devices
Access Profiles
- Navigate to Profiles: On the left-hand side panel, select "Profiles."
- Select a Profile to Edit: Click on the pencil icon on the far right under the "Actions" column for the profile you want to edit.
Access the Passcode Option
- Passcode Option: On the profile page, click the βPasscodeβ option.
Enable Passcode Policy Enforcement
- Enable Enforcement: Select the Enable Passcode policy enforcement slider to force the user to use a passcode to secure their device.
Specify Passcode Requirements
- Permit Simple Passcodes: Allows the use of ascending, repeating, and descending character sequences.
- Require Alphanumeric Value: Requires at least one alphanumeric character.
- Minimum Passcode Length: We recommend at least 6 characters.
- Minimum Number of Letters: The minimum number of letters required in the passcode.
- Minimum Number of Complex Characters: Must include at least a specified number of complex characters (e.g., &, $, or #).
- Maximum Passcode Age: Length of time for which the passcode is valid.
- Inactivity Auto-lock: Period of inactivity after which the device will lock. (See Grace period for device lock below).
- Passcode History: Number of new passcodes that need to be created before any passcode can be reused.
- Grace Period for Device Lock: Amount of time the device can be locked without prompting for the passcode on unlock. (See Inactivity Auto-lock above).
- Number of Failed Attempts: Number of times the incorrect passcode can be entered before the device is wiped. Leaving this blank will disable the wipe setting.
Save Settings
- Save: Once you have filled in all your requirements for your Passcode, click the βSaveβ button in the bottom right corner to save your settings.
