To prevent students or clients from inspecting or modifying browser extensions, it's essential to disable Developer Mode in Chrome. This will ensure that the settings are secure and cannot be altered. Follow the steps below to disable Developer Mode using the Google Admin Console.
Why Disable Developer Mode?
When Developer Mode is enabled, students or clients may be able to access and alter the code of installed extensions. Disabling this mode enhances security by preventing unauthorised modifications.
Access the Google Admin Console
- Navigate to the Google Admin Console: admin.google.com
Navigate to Chrome Settings
- In the Admin Console, go to Devices.
- Select Chrome > Settings > Users & browsers Settings.
- Choose the OU for which you want to disable Developer Mode.
Locate Developer Tools Settings
- On the right side, under User & browser settings, scroll down to the User Experience section.
- Find the Developer Tools option.
Disable Developer Tools
- Select the DeveloperTools option by clicking on it.
- Change the setting from "Always allow the use of built-in developer tools" to "Never allow the use of built-in developer tools."
Save the Changes
- Click Save in the top-right corner to apply the changes.
