Supervising your iOS device using Apple Configurator 2 allows for enhanced management capabilities, such as blocking or restricting apps. This guide will walk you through the steps to prepare and supervise your device.
Before You Begin
- macOS Compatibility: Ensure you have a machine running a compatible version of macOS to download and run the Apple Configurator 2 app from the App Store.
- Backup Your Device: This process will factory reset your device, erasing all data. If you want to restore your device later, please back it up via iTunes before proceeding.
How to Supervise an iOS Device Using Apple Configurator 2 on macOS

Install and Launch Apple Configurator 2
- Download and install Apple Configurator 2 from the App Store.
- Open the application on your Mac and connect your iPad or iOS device via USB.

Prepare the Device
- In Apple Configurator 2, click on Prepare to start the process.
- In the "Prepare Devices" window, select Manual Configuration.
- Uncheck all options except Supervise devices and Allow devices to pair with other computers, then click Next.

Enroll in MDM Server
- In the "Enroll in MDM Server" section, select Do not enrol in MDM from the "Server" drop-down menu and click Next.

Skip Apple ID Sign-In
- On the next screen, skip the Apple ID sign-in.

Provide Required Information
- Fill out the necessary fields and click Next.

Generate Supervision Identity
- In the next window, choose Generate a new supervision identity and click Done.

Configure Setup Assistant
- Select the steps you want to be presented within the Setup Assistant, then click Prepare.

Erase and Prepare the Device
- A warning message will appear stating that the device will be erased. Click Erase to continue.
- Your device will now be erased and configured as a Supervised device.
Finalizing the Process
Once the preparation is complete, your device will be fully supervised. This supervision allows you to take full advantage of the features Mobile Guardian offers, such as app blocking and restriction.
