A common question from our Chromebook users is why a student's device isn’t switching to the correct location-based profile, even when they are physically present in the classroom. This issue may occur for several reasons:
Possible Cause: Location Services Are Turned Off
If location services are disabled in the Chrome settings, the device will not send its location, preventing the profile from switching automatically.
To check and enable location services:
- Open Chrome and go to Settings > Content > Location.
- Under Privacy and Security, select Site Settings.
- Ensure that location services are enabled.
Controlling Location Settings via Google Admin Console
Since students can manually disable location services, it’s important to enforce this setting through the Google Admin Console to prevent changes.
To enforce location services:
- In the Google Admin Console, navigate to Chrome> Settings > Users & browsers Settings.
- In the right-hand pane, scroll down and select Geolocation.
- Force the setting to remain on, preventing students from disabling it.
Once this setting is enforced, location-based profile switching should work as expected.
