Setting up parent accounts and linking students and devices to these accounts is an important step of device control. This article shows you how to do this for any OS device, however, in the case of Chromebooks you must follow these steps.
Please note: If you are working with Chromebooks, both students and devices must be added to a parent account before the invite is sent out. Please ensure that you follow the instructions set out below to avoid any issues.

1. How to Invite a Parent to Mobile Guardian
In this section, we will show you how to add a parent to Mobile Guardian.
Let’s begin!
I. Login to your Mobile Guardian dashboard, if you have not done so already
II. Click on Settings
III. Scroll down & select Users
IV. Select Invite User, from the top right of the page
V. Type in the “First Name”, “Last Name” and “Email” of the parent user
VI. Select the Parent slider to set this role for the parent
Proceed to step IV below to link a student and device to the parent account
2. How to link students and devices to parent accounts
As mentioned, it’s important to first link students and devices with a parent account, before inviting the parent to their Mobile Guardian account.
NB: If you performed section 1 above, proceed to step IV in the below process to continue.

Please note:
- First link students and devices to the parent account
- Then confirm that both student(s) and device(s) are correctly linked
- Lastly, invite the parent to their Mobile Guardian account
As you can see, the student has a device associated with their name
Let’s begin!
I. Login to Mobile Guardian
II. Select Settings followed by Users
III. Click the pencil icon below "Actions" to update the user
IV. Under “Roles”, select the switch next to “Parent” to activate
IV. Below the “Parent Devices” heading, fill in the relevant student information
A. While typing the name of the student, an instant search will occur, allowing you to select the name you require from the drop-down list
B. Keep refining your search until the relevant student and device is displayed
V. Click Add once you have selected the relevant student's name and device name
Note: The Device name will be populated based on selected student
If you are unable to find the student:
- Select the Can’t find student? box
- Type in the "First Name" & "Last Name" of the student to add the student
- Once you’ve added the student, select their relevant device as described above
VI. Click the Add button once student information and device are in place
VII. If applicable, Add another student to this parent.
VIII. Once you’ve linked the relevant student(s) and device(s) to the parent account, click Invite
A successfully added student will appear as shown above, ready to be invited

The parent will be able to verify their address, create a password, and login to their account.

3. (Optional) Downloading the parent email template
Upon Inviting parents we suggest that you download the template document that can be sent to parents.
This invite is specific to the school and can be downloaded from your own school dashboard.
Let's take a look!
I. Login to your school dashboard in Mobile Guardian
II. Click on Devices, followed by Link Home-Owned (BYOD)
III. Click on Download Template where you can input your Unique School code found on the same page
IV. The template is shown below and will download as a docx file
V. Once filled in this may be sent to parents, welcoming them to their Mobile Guardian dashboard
VI. Providing parents with the steps required to download and install the Mobile Guardian app on their device.
