This article will guide you through the renewal process of an existing APNS certificate that is due to expire. Your APNS certificate must be renewed annually through the AppleID portal, so please ensure that you retain the login details.
Important Notes:
- A certificate renewal does not require the re-enrollment of devices.
- Mobile Guardian will remind you when the certificate is coming up for renewal via email to all administrators of the Mobile Guardian Dashboard.
#Note: If your APNS certificate expires and you do not renew it, or if you revoke or add a new certificate to the dashboard, you will need to unenroll and re-enrol all devices.
How to Renew Your APNS Certificate
Download the Certificate Signing Request (CSR)
- Login to your Mobile Guardian Dashboard and navigate to Settings > iOS MDM Settings.
- Download the certificate signing request (CSR) signed by Mobile Guardian. This will download a Mobile_Guardian_APNS.csr file, which will need to be uploaded to the Apple Push Certificate Portal later.
Generate the APNS Certificate from Apple
- Go to the Apple Push Certificate Portal.
- Sign in with the Apple ID you used to create the existing APNS certificate.
- Find the certificate that you want to renew in the list titled "Certificates for Third-Party Servers."
- Click Renew > Choose File and select the .csr file downloaded earlier. Then, click Upload.
- You should now see an updated expiry date on your existing certificate. Click the Download button to download the updated APNS certificate.
Step 3: Upload the APNS Certificate to Mobile Guardian
- Sign in to your Mobile Guardian Dashboard and click Update/Renew Certificate.
- Enter the Apple ID, click Select Certificate, and choose the MDM_Mobile_Guardian_Ltd_Certificate.pem file. Then, click Update Certificate.
Congratulations! You have now successfully updated your APNS certificate, which will expire in one year.
#Note: If there's a "waiting for service refresh" status, it will disappear momentarily after a service refresh takes place on our servers.
