Integrate Mobile Guardian with Apple School Manager (ASM)

Mobile Guardian supports both Apple School Manager (ASM) and the Apple Classroom App. This guide will help you configure ASM within Mobile Guardian, ensuring that devices will be auto-configured on the next device profile refresh.

Pre-requisites

Ensure that devices and classes with students are pre-configured within Mobile Guardian.

Apple School Manager (ASM)

• Shared iPads: If you need to use shared iPads, set up students in ASM and assign them managed Apple IDs. These students will sync with Mobile Guardian.
• Non-shared devices: ASM is not required if you are not using shared devices or managed Apple IDs.

Initial Setup & Syncing in Mobile Guardian

• Configure DEP/ASM: Navigate to Settings > iOS MDM Settings and configure DEP/ASM. This will sync your DEP devices and ASM users (students/teachers) with Mobile Guardian.
• Re-sync Users: If you add students to ASM later, click 'Re-sync Users'. This step is not required for using the Apple Classroom App.

Assigning Devices for Classroom Use

• 1-to-1 Devices: Devices can be assigned 1-to-1 to a student.
• Shared Devices: Shared devices must be logged into by students using their Apple ID & password or another authentication method.
• Classroom Devices: Set all devices to be used in the classroom as "Classroom Devices" in the device information page.

Configuring Shared Student Devices

• Allocate Students: Assign students to shared devices in the Student Sharing Panel of the device.
• Good Connectivity: Ensure good connectivity in the classroom, as user data syncs with iCloud Drive when students sign in or out.

Teacher Devices

• 1-to-1 Allocation: Teacher devices cannot be shared and must be allocated on a 1-to-1 basis per teacher. This is done under Settings > Users.

Installing Apple Classroom App

• Install the App: Install the Apple Classroom App on all teacher devices.
• Refresh Devices: Refresh the devices after installation to apply all the correct configurations.

• Use Tags: We recommend installing the Classroom App with a tag on teacher devices.

Setting Up Classes and Students

• Add Students to Classes: Add students to the teachers' classes. You can create classes in the teacher module or Settings > Classes.
• Refresh Devices: Ensure all relevant devices have been refreshed to apply configurations.

You are now ready to control devices with the Apple Classroom App.
