The Mobile Guardian Extension now offers students an intuitive and accessible way to interact with their device management settings directly from their browser. By simply clicking the "Mobile Guardian extension button" (typically located in the browser's toolbar), students gain immediate access to a simplified interface, empowering them with more visibility and control over their device's connection to the school's Mobile Guardian policies. This enhancement aims to improve student understanding of active policies and provide basic troubleshooting options without requiring the teacher or IT administrator for common queries.
Options Accessible via the Extension Button:
Upon clicking the Mobile Guardian extension button, students will be presented with a menu providing the following options:
- Open
- This option opens a new browser tab dedicated to the Mobile Guardian extension interface.
- Sync
- Selecting "Sync" allows the student to manually initiate a synchronisation process between their device's Mobile Guardian extension and the school's Mobile Guardian platform. This forces the extension to check for and apply the latest policies, class memberships, and settings pushed by teachers or administrators.
- About
- Choosing "About" opens a new browser tab displaying information pertinent to the Mobile Guardian extension itself. This typically includes the extension's version number, copyright information, profile name, school and device information as well as sync and debug log actions.
- Current Profile
- This option directly displays which Mobile Guardian profile is currently active on the student's device. Profiles define the set of rules, website filtering, application restrictions, and other policies applied to the student's device based on the time of day, location, or class they are enrolled in.
- Restart Services
- When selected, "Restart Services" attempts to restart the underlying connection and the extension itself on the student's device. This effectively refreshes the Mobile Guardian agent and its communication with the central platform.
- This is a crucial first-step troubleshooting option for students. If they experience minor connectivity issues, unusual filtering behaviour, or if the "Sync" option doesn't seem to resolve a problem, restarting services can often re-establish a stable connection and correctly apply policies without needing to restart the entire device or involve IT.
