Removing an MDM profile from a Device Enrollment Program (DEP)-enrolled iOS device can be challenging due to the inherent security features that ensure device compliance and management. However, there are scenarios where un-enrolling a device from the MDM becomes necessary, such as transitioning to a new MDM solution or repurposing devices. This guide provides a detailed step-by-step approach to removing the MDM profile from DEP-enrolled devices, explaining the necessary permissions, settings, and actions needed to complete the process effectively. Log in to your Apple School Manager (ASM) or Apple Business Manager (ABM) portal.
- Navigate to Devices.
- Find and select the device you want to offboard.
- Select the edit icon on the right.
- Select unassign from the current MDM
- Select Continue
Removing the MDM from the Mobile Guardian Dashboard
- Navigate to Devices:
- On the Mobile Guardian Dashboard, go to Devices > All Devices.
- Click on the Device Information icon (eye) for the required device.
- Remove MDM:
- Select Actions.
- Click on Remove MDM.
Once the command has been acknowledged by the device, the Mobile Guardian application will be uninstalled.
- Delete Device:
- After MDM removal, delete the device from the Mobile Guardian Dashboard by selecting the trashcan icon.
#Note: You can bulk remove MDM using the Device Bulk Action function for multiple devices.
Factory Reset:
- On the device, go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset.
- Select Erase All Content and Settings.
- Select Erase All Content and Settings and confirm.
