Mobile Guardian uses rules to help you, as a parent, manage your child’s time on their mobile device effectively. The Rules section allows you to manage the following:
- Where your child's device is monitored (location) – Create locations in the Zones section.
- When your child’s devices are monitored (time) – Create schedules in the Time & Date Settings section.
- Which devices are being monitored – Assign rules in the Settings section.
- What is being monitored (content) – Configure what is monitored in the Settings section.
Rule Settings Overview
- Safe Content: Blacklist and whitelist websites via categories or URLs with the Mobile Guardian Browser.
- Device Restrictions: Apply restrictions on device functionality (Note: Many of these restrictions apply to devices enrolled via School, which should be Android EMM enrolled or iOS supervised).
- Applications: Block specific applications on the device.
- Passcode: Set up a passcode on the device.
Let's start by adding your first rule.
Creating a Rule
Navigate to Settings
- Go to the Settings section on your child’s card.
- In the drop-down menu, select “Create a Rule”.
Configure Your Rule
- Name Your Rule:
- Enter a Name (mandatory) for your rule.
- Select the child that you would like the rule to apply to.
- Set "When and Where" Parameters:
- If you want to activate your rule manually, select "When activated manually".
- To apply a rule at a specific place or time, select this option and configure your Place and Schedule.
- Select either "Anywhere" or a specific place.
- Select either "Anytime" or a specific schedule.
Adding a New Place (Geofence)
- Add New Place:
- If you select “Add New Place”, you will need to add a new geofence.
- Enter a “Zone Name” (mandatory) like Home, School, soccer practice, etc.
- Optionally, enable “Notify of arrival” and “Notify on departure” to be notified when your child’s device leaves or enters the zones you have created.
- Select Coordinates:
- Click on “Add New” and select the type of zone you want to use.
- Select coordinates via the map, and adjust the radius if needed.
- Create Zone:
- Once the zone has been added, click “Create Zone”.
Adding a Schedule
- Add Schedule:
- Click on “Add New Schedule”.
- Enter the schedule name, duration, and weekly configuration.
- Once completed, click “Add” to save your schedule.
Finalizing Your Rule
- Select Schedule and Place:
- Select the newly added schedule for your rule.
- Click “Create” to finalize your rule.
Configuring Restrictions
- Apply Restrictions:
- Back on your home screen, click on the Settings Icon on the selected child where you would like to apply the Rule.
- Edit Rule Settings:
- Click on “Settings” and then on “Edit” for the rule you created.
- Configure the rule settings, including Safe Content, Device Restrictions, Applications, and Passcodes.
Congratulations! You have successfully created your first Scheduled Rule and configured the necessary restrictions.
