Teacher permission groups in Mobile Guardian are designed to give schools the ability to manage the permissions teachers need to oversee their classes effectively. Here’s an overview of how these permission groups work and what features are available to teachers.
About Permissions Groups:
District-Level Management:
- Permission groups are controlled at the district level.
- Schools can only assign teachers to groups, not create or modify them.
- When a school joins a district, it inherits the district’s default permission groups and settings.
- A user can belong to only one permission group per role within a school.
- Admins can create separate permission groups for teachers and add them to different groups as needed.
Assigning Teachers to Groups:
- Teachers must be assigned to groups at the school level, not the district level. The district manages the groups and permissions, while schools handle the assignment.
New Teachers:
- Upon creation, they are assigned to the default teacher group, but school administrators can reassign them as necessary.
Default Teacher Permissions
The default teacher permission group is set to "Full Control," which grants teachers comprehensive access to manage their classes.
Categories & Permissions:
- Modules:
- Enable Web Filtering Module: Allows teachers to block all traffic during class (requires the Web Filtering Module) and grant access to blocked sites.
- Enable Web Filter Data Module: Allows teachers to take actions on the web filter report and export it.
- Enable Student Module: Grants teachers the ability to edit non-G Suite student profiles, export student information, and view student location data.
- In-Class Action:
- Device Control: Teachers can direct message students (all OS), mirror devices (iOS only), share student screens (Android and Chromebook), and share their own screen (Chromebook only).
- App Management:
- Application Control: Teachers can block all applications or selected ones during their class.
- General:
- Configuration Options: Teachers can configure Bluetooth settings (iOS only), manage YouTube restrictions, configure Force Join settings, sync Google Classes, and start classes outside of school hours.
Managing Permissions
These settings provide comprehensive control over what teachers can do within their classes. For instance, you can customise the permissions based on your school's specific needs by adding or removing modules and actions as necessary.
