The Application Usage Report in Mobile Guardian provides administrators with deep visibility into how managed devices are being used across your school or district. By tracking application telemetry, you can audit screen time, monitor engagement with educational tools, ensure policy compliance, and track software return on investment (ROI).
This reporting framework captures exactly which applications are being opened, which students or classes are utilising them, and precisely how much time is being spent inside each app.
Core Data Metrics Captured
The reporting engine automatically monitors and consolidates five key operational data points:
- Application: The specific app name and identifier running on the endpoint.
- Class: The assigned Mobile Guardian class structure the student belongs to.
- Student: The specific student identity tied to the app activity.
- Device: The unique hardware device used to access the application.
- Time Spent: The total accumulated duration of active engagement inside the application.
Generating and Customising a Report
To access this tool, log into your Mobile Guardian Dashboard, navigate to the Reports section on the left-hand navigation pane, and select Application Usage Report.
Step 1: Apply Filters
To prevent data bloat and isolate specific insights, you can slice the data by generating a tailored, filtered list using the following parameters:
- Linked Profile: View application usage constrained to devices under specific policy frameworks.
- Class: Isolate data to specific roster groups or classrooms.
- Student/s: Target individual student accounts or groups of students for closer audit.
- Operating System: Filter by platform (e.g., iOS, Android, macOS, ChromeOS).
- Devices: Filter down to specific hardware assets.
- Date Range: Select specific operational windows (e.g., Yesterday, This Week, or a custom school term range).
Step 2: Adjust Visible Columns
You can dynamically alter your dashboard view to show only the information relevant to your current workflow. The interface allows you to toggle the visibility of the following metadata columns:
- Icon: The visual application icon for quick identification.
- Application Name: The formal title of the software application.
- Class: The classroom context associated with the event.
- Student: The student's full name/account identifier.
- Device: The designated name or serial of the hardware.
- Time Spent: Total cumulative duration of active application use.
- First Accessed: The initial timestamp marking when the application was launched within the selected window.
- Page: Specific contextual page references (where supported by the platform telemetry).
- Profile: The active Mobile Guardian profile assigned to the device during usage.
Step 3: Exporting Data
For external auditing, parental reporting, or internal data archiving, you can easily export your filtered dataset.
- Apply your desired filters and column adjustments.
- Click the Export button (typically available as a CSV or Excel format option on the top right of the reporting pane).
- The file will download locally, ready to be ingested into school spreadsheets or business intelligence tools.
